One of the many things members of the Mount Airy Town Council
and Carroll Board of County Commissioners agreed on Tuesday
night was the possibility of their goals aligning for a plot
of land north of town.
The informal gathering in Mount Airy's town hall focused on
future of the Harrison-Leishear property, 250 acres of land
that Carroll County owns near the intersection of Md. Route 27
and Watersville and Leishear roads...

The Mount Airy Town Council met informally with the
Carroll County Board of Commissioners Tuesday, with
both bodies vowing to work together in developing the
Harrison Leishear property to meet town and county
goals.
The 254-acre property, located between Boteler Road
and Md. 27, was purchased by the county in 2009 as
part of a $23.5 million lawsuit and will be used for
an employment campus and a recreation area. The
proposed 100-acre recreation area also includes four
prepared water wells, which the council said was of
extreme importance to the water-strapped town... |

land on the Harrison Leishear Farm into an employment campus,
Mount Airy staff members have drafted language for a new office
park and employment zoning district...

While the town is confident that it will satisfy the needs of the
consent order signed with the Maryland Department of the
Environment, Mount Airy officials are still looking for ways to
continue development in the future. Town Engineer Barney Quinn
said the town’s best option to find more water for future growth
is the Harrison Leishear property, which is located between
Boteler Road and Md. 27. The town and county have been in talks
for months to turn the 254 acres of unused land into a new
recreation and commercial park...

County employees are working to draft a preliminary annexation
agreement with the Mount Airy Town Council which will turn 254
acres of unused land into a new recreation and commercial park.
The Carroll County Board of Commissioners and Town Council met
Tuesday to discuss the possibilities for the property, which is
located between Boteler Road and Md. 27. The land, known as the
Harrison Leishear property, was acquired by the county in June
2009 as part of a $23.5 million lawsuit settlement...
Mount Airy, county need agreement on wells [Carroll County

The Mount Airy Town Council will try to meet with Carroll County
officials within the next 30 days to discuss an agreement to allow
the town to use two wells on county land. The wells are located on
the Harrison and Leishear properties, located east of Md. 27 and
north of Watersville Road. One of the wells on the land was tested
and provided 200 gallons a minute during a 96-hour period...
